· Captain Calico Jack’s Log

Two Hideouts, One Mall

In short: Calico Jack learns crews can play both his rooms back to back. Pirates and Pirate Island both run at Escape This Perth CBD and Melbourne CBD, and Pirate Island joins Pirates at Escape This Sydney CBD from November 2026.

Friday. Good Friday, they call it. Good for whom, I ask.

Scarface has rebuilt my island shanty down the corridor from my ship, under the very same mall. I was delighted. Two hideouts in one basement! I could keep my treasure in one and my other treasure in the other, and stroll between them like a gentleman.

Then I read the bookings. The same prisoners. Twice. In one afternoon. They escape my galleon at two o’clock, buy a sandwich, and at three they are in my shanty going through my cupboards. One crew did it the other way round, which I find even ruder.

I asked Scarface how they knew where to go. He said the signs on the wall. I asked who put up the signs. He said the management. I asked who told the management. He went to check on the parrot.

Note for the log: buy more locks. Buy a bigger island. Buy a smaller mall.

FAQ

What this entry answers

Who is Scarface on Calico Jack’s galleon?

The captain’s first mate, and the fiercest-looking sailor aboard. Don’t let the scar fool you: in Pirates, Scarface is quietly on the prisoners’ side, and Calico Jack hasn’t worked it out. He’s back in Pirate Island, the sequel, still covering his tracks.
